The Nine Real Causes

1. It is normal and nothing is wrong

2. The programming session was interrupted

Key programming is a sequence, not a single write. On many platforms the vehicle enters a security mode, accepts the new credentials, and then has to finalize and exit that mode cleanly. 4. Only part of the key list was written

Where two or more keys were programmed, it is entirely possible for one to register and another to be skipped, particularly on platforms where all keys must be presented in one session. The signature is a light plus one key that behaves differently from the other — exactly the pattern in one key works and the other does not.

5. An aftermarket remote start or alarm is disagreeing

A remote-start installation needs a way to start the engine with no key present, so the installer fits a bypass module holding a copy of your key credentials. Program new keys and that module is now carrying data the vehicle has moved on from.
