What Mobile Fob Programming Actually Involves
A modern key fob contains a rolling-code RF transmitter and (for proximity/smart keys) a low-frequency receiver that talks to the antennas built into your car's body. To "program" a fob, we plug into your OBD-II port, authenticate to the immobilizer and BCM, and register the new fob's unique ID in the vehicle's security memory. Done correctly, the fob locks, unlocks, opens trunk/tailgate, pairs proximity detection, and starts the engine exactly like a dealer-programmed unit.
Some owners try parts-counter fobs and YouTube "DIY programming" tutorials. This works for a handful of early 2000s Ford and GM vehicles, but for anything newer — Toyota 8A, Honda G-chip, Hyundai/Kia SmartKey, BMW CAS/FEM, Mercedes FBS4, VW MQB — you need real OEM or aftermarket equivalent diagnostic software. That's what we bring.
Fob Types We Program
- Remote entry fobs — standalone locks/unlocks/panic. Most 1996–2015 vehicles.
- Remote head keys (flip keys) — fob integrated into a folding blade.
- Smart/proximity fobs — keyless entry with push-button start. Toyota/Lexus Smart Key, Ford Intelligent Access, Honda Keyless Access, BMW Comfort Access, Mercedes Keyless-Go.
- European luxury fobs — BMW CAS, Mercedes FBS3/FBS4, Audi/VW MQB, Porsche PIWIS, Jaguar/Land Rover KVM.
- Aftermarket / universal fobs — we also program select Xhorse, Autel, Keyline and KeyDIY universal fobs when appropriate.

Why Not Go to AutoZone, Batteries+ or the Dealer?
Parts-counter stores (AutoZone, O'Reilly, Batteries+) will sometimes program early-2000s Ford, GM, and Dodge fobs for free with a purchase — but their coverage is limited to a tiny list of vehicles and they cannot program any smart key, any European vehicle, or any 2015+ Asian smart-key system. Their scan tools are consumer grade.
Dealerships have the right tools but charge $300–$900 per fob plus require you to tow the car in (or drive to them with a working key). That's a day off work and a tow bill, plus you wait for an appointment 3–7 days out.
