Expert Cadillac key programming for Escalade, CT4, CT5, XT4, XT5, XT6, and all classic models. We use GM GDS2 diagnostic software for dealer-level service at your location.

Cadillac Key Systems Through the Years

Cadillac has used several key and security systems throughout its history, each with specific programming requirements. The VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System) was used on older Cadillacs (1986-2003). This system uses a resistor pellet embedded in the key blade — the ignition reads the resistance value and only allows starting if it matches. There are 15 different resistance values. VATS keys don't require electronic programming but do require the correct resistance value. The Passkey/PK3 system was used from the late 1990s through the 2010s. This transponder-based system uses an electronic chip in the key head that communicates with the BCM (Body Control Module). PK3 keys require diagnostic programming to register the transponder code. Modern Cadillacs (2014+) use GM's Smart Key system with proximity detection and push-button start. The smart key communicates wirelessly with the Keyless Entry Control Module (KECM) and the Body Control Module (BCM). Programming requires GM GDS2 (Global Diagnostic System 2) software. The newest Cadillacs also support digital key technology through the Cadillac app, but physical smart keys remain the primary access method and our focus for replacement and programming.

Cadillac Models We Service

We program keys for every Cadillac model in the Fort Worth area. The Cadillac Escalade (including ESV and EXT) is the flagship Cadillac and one of our most commonly serviced luxury vehicles. The Escalade uses GM's latest smart key system with enhanced encryption. Given its premium price point and high theft target status, Escalade key security is among GM's most advanced. The CT4 and CT5 sedans use the current generation of Cadillac smart key technology. These vehicles share their platform with other GM products but feature Cadillac-specific key designs and security calibrations. The XT4, XT5, and XT6 crossover/SUVs represent the bulk of new Cadillac sales. All use smart key systems with push-button start as standard equipment. We also service older Cadillac models including the CTS, ATS, XTS, SRX, DTS, and STS. Whether your Cadillac is 2 years old or 20 years old, we have the tools and knowledge to handle it.

Cadillac All Keys Lost

All-keys-lost programming for modern Cadillacs requires GM GDS2 diagnostic software and a security authorization process. The process involves connecting GDS2 to the vehicle, accessing the BCM and KECM modules, performing a Theft Deterrent Learn procedure, programming the new smart key's transponder and remote functions, and verifying all entry and start functions. For older Cadillacs with PK3 transponder systems, the all-keys-lost procedure is different — it requires accessing the BCM directly and performing a key learn sequence through GDS2. Cadillac dealers typically charge $300-$500 per smart key plus $100-$200 for programming. Our all-inclusive pricing is significantly lower, and we perform the service at your location — no tow required. For Escalade owners specifically — given the vehicle's high value and theft target status, we strongly recommend having two programmed keys and using the key fob in your MyKey settings to restrict valet access. We can configure these settings during any service visit.

Cadillac Theft Deterrent System Issues

The "Service Theft Deterrent System" warning is common on Cadillac vehicles and can have several causes. On older Cadillacs with PK3/Passkey systems, this warning typically indicates that the BCM is not recognizing the key's transponder chip. Causes include a failing transponder chip, BCM fault, antenna ring issue around the ignition cylinder, or key data corruption after a battery replacement. On modern smart key Cadillacs, this warning can indicate a failing KECM (Keyless Entry Control Module), BCM communication issue, depleted key fob battery, or antenna system fault. We diagnose Cadillac theft deterrent issues using GDS2 to read specific fault codes from the BCM and KECM. This pinpoints whether the problem is key-side (transponder or fob failure) or vehicle-side (module or wiring issue), saving you from unnecessary key replacements when the problem is actually the vehicle.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Cadillac key programming cost?

Cadillac spare key programming ranges from $200-$350. All-keys-lost programming ranges from $350-$600. Escalade keys are at the higher end due to enhanced security. All prices include the key, programming, and testing.

Can you program Cadillac keys without the dealer?

Yes. We use GM GDS2 diagnostic software — the same tool used by Cadillac dealerships. We perform all programming operations at your location.

My Cadillac says Service Theft Deterrent — is it the key?

Not necessarily. This warning can be caused by the key, the BCM, the KECM, antenna issues, or wiring problems. We diagnose the specific cause with GDS2 before recommending any repairs, so you don't pay for unnecessary parts.

Do you program Cadillac Escalade keys?

Yes. The Escalade is one of our most commonly serviced Cadillac models. We program smart keys for all Escalade generations including the current 2021+ model.
